AirScanner support
A little setup help.
Start here if your Wi‑Fi scanner isn’t showing up on your iPhone or iPad, or a scan isn’t doing what you expect.
Scan to PDF for the first time
- Turn on a flatbed scanner or all‑in‑one printer with eSCL or AirScan support. Use an iPhone with iOS 17 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 17 or later.
- Connect your device to the same local network as the scanner.
- Open AirScanner, allow Local Network access, and choose your scanner, resolution, and color.
- Put the page face down on the glass, close the lid, and tap Check glass. Review the preview, then tap Scan document. Keep the app open until the PDF is saved.
Does AirScanner work with my scanner?
AirScanner works with scanners that support eSCL, also called AirScan, on your local network. Look for eSCL or AirScan in your scanner’s manual. AirPrint alone is not enough: a printer can print over Wi‑Fi without supporting network scanning.
Compatibility and available settings vary by model and firmware, and not every scanner has been verified. AirScanner scans the whole glass without cropping the page for you.
Why is my Wi‑Fi scanner not found?
Confirm that the scanner is on, and check AirScanner’s Local Network permission in iOS Settings. Your phone and scanner must use the same Wi‑Fi network.
Guest Wi‑Fi and router client isolation can block the connection even when the network names look right. Use a network you trust: some scanners send scans without encryption.
What does Check glass do, and why did it fail?
Check glass asks the scanner for a small preview so you can see the page before a full scan. Some scanners cannot make that preview; AirScanner then offers Scan without check.
A faint page can look empty. Check its position and use Scan anyway if needed.
Can I search the text in my scanned PDFs?
Yes, in the app. AirScanner recognizes text on your device, so the Documents tab can search by name or by the text inside, and you can copy text from a page. Exported PDFs do not receive a searchable text layer, so check the text before relying on it.
How do I report a problem?
Use the AirScanner support issue tracker on GitHub. A GitHub account is required to open an issue, but not to use the app.
Include your app version, iOS or iPadOS version, scanner model, the steps you took, and what you expected to happen. Share only non-identifying details needed to explain the problem.
Issues are public. Never post scanned documents, personal details, IP addresses, Wi‑Fi names, or scanner serial numbers. Review screenshots before attaching them. If you cannot remove sensitive information, leave the attachment out.
Read how the app handles your data before sharing a scan.
